Final Countdown

So this is it... I know i didn't make a post yesterday, so first off my bad. Went out to Karaoke (finally) in HK and did some non-weekend partying and was way too tired to post. I pretty much just finished packing and needless to say I do have ze sad face on.

Part of me wants to go home but part of me also wants to stay.

2nd Last Day

So woke up real early today (9am... ok not that early compared to the working folk) and went to do acupuncture and exercise with Grandma. Its her last session at St. Pauls as she gets to go home today!!! So we're all super excited.

Afterwards went to Wan Chai with my uncle Sion to grab some lunch.

Streets of waterloo... I mean Wan Chai.
So this place was supposedly the place to be back in the 1960's and 1970's. Bringing your date here was a pretty big deal back then so decided to check out this "historic" restaurant.
This thing was highlighted on the menu... "famous since 1966" so obviously I had to get it.

Soup of the day. Russian Borscht - not bad
Uncle's food.
what i got... i was like wtf? at first..

But then i realized what was goin on.

Tasted pretty decent.

So after lunch, took the tram one last time back to causeway bay (pretty chill sitting on those things if you arn't in a rush). Then went to Mong Kok to meet up with Brian. We walked around Langham place (I neglected to take pictures of this place, probably because I lived there during my last visit and know it like the back of my hand already...)

Saw some interesting things.... look closely at which one is highly inappropriate.

Went to cafe de coral for some good ol fashion afternoon tea. French toast of course.

Afterwards the main purpose of going to MK was to pick up my new suit. Didn't really get a good picture of me in it.. but Come to my Convocation this saturday (Oct 23, 2010) in waterloo and you can see it in action!

My attempt at a weird g2000 ad. but really.. i just look dumb.

So after that, went home and met up with Cheng for a final run at bball in hk.

So we played this old lady and old dude and lost twice in a row. They were good shooters, but I just couldn't bring myself to block the old guy's 5 second set shot or push past the screens the old lady set (they were actually really well placed screens so props to her). Anyways, frustrated I made my way over to a court where some white boys were playing to release my rage.

Turns out they were pretty good (played high school ball in the states) but we still won. They were around 20 years old and were in HK apparently for some volunteer church work. Either we were good enough in ball, or they wanted to convert us.. (probably the latter) but they invited us to play in their indoor gym today (thursday).

After they left, we challenged some Filipinos to some 5 on 5 full court. They weren't THAT bad.. but they were short. Anyways we played 4 games and we came out on top 3-1. Cheng and I felt busted after that so we limped our ass over to Yokonoiya? which is essential like the "teriyaki" or 'edo Japan' of Hong Kong.
What i ordered... meh. It was cheap i guess

Afterwards I wanted to go one last time to the arcade which I had frequented so many nights for time killing purposes.
Saw this along the way... I may be colour blind but i'm PRETTY DAMN SURE that's not what water should look like. It was gross. We walked past it pretty quickly.

Sf4. =D
So ended up with an 8 win streak and the last guy i beat gave me a staredown before leaving the arcade (no joke). Anyways no one else sat down to play so I just got up and left. 8 beat my previous streak of 7 so i'm happy enough.

So I was pretty beat, but Brian, Kaying, Leo and Tim asked me to go to Karaoke, and seeing as i hadn't gone at all yet this trip, I dragged my ass over to CEO. (it was really close to home anyways)

So apparently they don't charge "room fee" instead they force you to buy these "platters"
$98 HKD for EACH fruit platter
and $79 HKD for each bag of chips and "bowl of nuts"

honestly i'd feel less ripped off if you just charged me for the damn room..

So right now, the videos are uploading and i'm going to be bored at the airport tomorrow.
Thus my plan is to end todays entry on this note (yes i know i'm a day behind) and give you guys an update tomorrow while i'm at the airport chilling. It will include videos of our fail singing as well as what I did today (not much really).

So I'm feeling half sad and half ready to go back home... Vacation was honestly awesome and I'll miss HK. But better sleep now and wake up early... Don't wanna miss my flight. Oh yea theres a massive typhoon warning.. Pray that I don't miss my flight.

Later Days.

P.S (come to my convo this Saturday)

Day 30 - Wind down

So this is it... 3 more days. Gonna keep this entry short because gotta get up early to visit grandma while she does her acupuncture treatment.

Woke up and did the usual, got some fairwood (dai fai woot) and ate lunch while visiting grandma. She was in pretty good spirits today and showed off some leg exercises for me. Great news is that she gets to go home tomorrow! so everyone is excited and i'm sure she is too =D.

Afterward met up with ricky, brian, aaron and wendy to do some shopping in Mong Kok.
Got some random computer stuff here.
Then went to ladies street. Uh.. sorry to disappoint you ladies, but this won't be my Halloween costume.
lol... which does not belong.....

Ricky went here after to buy a camera for winnie. How sweet.

After that, went to Macdonnell Road with family to eat some more Hairy Crab!. I pray my stomach can handle all this seafood (first yesterday, then today).
Again, i was starving so i totally forgot to take a picture of the rest of the food..
Afterwards, went to visit grandma again to psych her up for return home tomorrow.

But yea... sorry for the really short post, gotta hit the sack tonight. Pictures will most likely come on facebook when i'm back in toronto and hopefully i'll get some cooler pics in for tomorrow and the last few days.

Later days!

Day 29 - 4 more days...

So firstly, for some reason, people are getting the wrong impression from my LKF stories. More specifically, to clarify story #3, i DID not make any moves whatsoever towards this girl, so I would like to put this nonsense of me hitting on "friend's friends" to rest.

Alright back to me day. So today I was supposed to go get my haircut.
Woke up early, and in more epic asian fashion. I had to camera whore myself out and take some "sexy" before photos.... Fob level +10 points

First went to the hospital for 3 hours as I hung out with grandma as she did acupuncture treatment. She was doing great and had alot of energy during the process. Hung out with her some more after the session was over.

So met up with Ricky and walked around Times Square for a bit doing some shopping. Walked into a book store. Amusing Story.

So these books are wrapped up in packaging first of all.
Me: Hey ricky... can i take these out to look at them?
Ricky: um... i'm not sure....
Me: so how the heck do i know if its good then?
Ricky: Judge a book by its cover.

Ok ... wow after typing that out... that was extremely lame. Lame times 100... i'm literally shaking my head right now. However, I promised to track my progress so clearly HK has not only foberized me, but my sense of humour is declining too....
sigh..

The little sign there claims it to be "perhaps the most expensive commercial lens in the world" . It was retailing for $207,000 HKD. Ricky was skeptical of it being the most expensive..

So we walked towards the place ricky got his hair cut last time... only to find it was gone...
Fail.
So we did some more shopping instead while continuing to look for a place.
This was so dumb. So Boissini was selling M&Ms for 9 bucks but the PACKAGING would give 20% off the next purchase if you use it. Literally.. the packaging.. So when we bought our clothes and the M&M's... they opened the package and emptied it out into this massive plastic wrap....
98 bucks for a haircut, shampoo, and head massage. Not bad.

The results:

Rickys.

Ok so... pretty much everyones reaction is gonna be... it looks the freaking same. And yea... i'm too conservative and my hair is too "thick and hard" to foberize well. I do notice the subtle differences and the guy was actually pretty good. i would recommend ppl to go there. Not bad.

Had about an hour and a bit to spare after so went with Ricky to buy some stuff at G2000. But the dinner highlight of the night was Buffet dinner at Harbour Grand Hotel.

Massive buffet.

Ok here comes the food!
Plate 1:
Oysters, uni, salmon sushi, Conch, lobster claw and scallop sashimi.
2nd Plate:
Peking Duck, Choi (need my veggies), fried rice, dim sum, and FOIE GRAS. OMG... so amazing.. can't believe they had this here.
3rd Plate:
More oysters, Octopus, Scallop, Salmon Sashimi
4th Plate:
uhh.. i kinda ate half of this before taking a picture my bad...
Shark fin soup (fake but not bad), uni, alaskan crab, foie gras, and roast beef

5th plate:
picture take fail..
but i did have a 5th plate and it contained some korean food. Forgot what it was. at this point i had to force myself to stop eating oysters before i get mercury poisoning.
6th plate:
"Special, sea something... I think it was just conch.. but they called it Sea Whelk." Shrugh.
7th Plate:
Dessert Part 1.
um... i dont remember much of the names. The only thing was the Bird's nest with double boiled egg (can you guess which one it is?)
8th plate:
Crepe with.. too much sauce and ice cream.. oops

So after dinner, went to "Sugar" in tai Koo. It was at the East Hotel. The view was absolutely amazing and the weather was gorgeous.

Display picture worthy.

Ben needed to take a small bus back to Tsuen wan.. Mad lucky guy. The driver only had space for one and there were 4 of us waving the bus in.. he almost didn't stop but Ben got lucky. Or else he might still be waiting for a bus.

So thats my day. So this is it. Final week. I ask that all souvenir requests be given now. You have until wednesday (might even be too late). So this is your reward blog readers. You will get exclusive access to the souvenir request list (obviously I can't fulfill ALL of them but i'll do my best).

Later days!

Day 28 - Recovery Day

Day 28 - Recovery Day.

Woke up around 2pm. Met up with Cheng and Stephanie for some breakfast/lunch/brunch.

This was mine. Meh. Was at Tsuh Wah.
Saw this little guy walking towards visiting grandma. Way too FLUFFAY not to take a picture. mad cute.

Anyways, stayed with grandma for a hour and a bit and just talked to her. She was quite energetic today and she was making jokes too. So that was good to see and hear.
Met up with everyone at Hang Hau at 7pm to go to Sai Kung to eat seafood.
Guy on a boat selling seafood. Literally..
Dunno what these are called in english. But cool.
Giant fish. Like... as big as the massive tank.
Tons of seafood to choose from.

Shrimp in a bottle. Apparently they're shipped to HK from malaysia this way.
Can you spot who doesnt belong? this guy tried to sell us on his restaurant so badly he followed us for a good 2 minutes.

Sea urchin!. Actually this stuff is for display purposes only.
Per the lady at the restaurant:
Us: how do you sell it?
Her: You want to eat that???? you can't eat it!. you'll die. its from HK water. Caught for display purposes only...
Us: .....
Her: heres the good stuff (shows us the uni)
Us: oh.....
Wicked ass night view. We sat 3rd floor balcony.

Ok here comes the food:
Cheese Lobster - meh average.
Washin it down with a bottle of cream soda
Fish. "gifted to us" - pretty bland imo. Probably dead...
Pissing Shrimp

Calamari
UNI - omg this was amazing. probably best thing all night.
Scallop. Meh..
Clams. I was pretty infuriated by the quality of this. I"m 99% sure that these clams were dead. Extremely untasty.

Overall, the food was quite disappointing and it wasn't cheap (250 a head). Talked to my dad after and apparently not a good idea to go to sai kung on weekends. Only regulars go, because everyone else gets crap seafood (i.e. us) and yea... extremely disappointed.
Definitely was not this happy about the seafood dinner.

Took the "small bus" back to Causeway Bay

Unfortunately (or fortunately) the speedometer didn't go over the limit, but we still got back in record time.

So hit up LKF after with Ben, with Jen, wendy and her friend joining us after. On the way there, found a wallet in the MTR. Thought it was dropped by the guys in front of us so I chased them down and asked if it was theirs... Turns out it wasn't. So i opened it up and found an ID and $1000HKD. Obviously did the right thing and gave the whole thing to the MTR customer service desk. (I opened it up to ensure that there was ID so that someone could actually claim it).

Saw this streaker along LKF, was pretty jokes.
Ok this picture here is solely for the purposes of guaging how afro-ish my hair has gotten. Please note there is Gel in my hair already and its just.. outta control. Plan is to get it cut tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Anyways, gotta get up early to be with grandma for acupuncture treatment.

Later Days.
