Day 19-21 - 3 Day Update

Sooo my apologies for the serious lack of updates. My excuse is that Day 19 was extremely low-key and not much to update, not to mention I didn't take any pictures... but with respect to the other days... it was because I went out partying and honestly did not have the energy to update. So without any further delay here goes my weekend update.

Day 19
So i've progressively been getting up later and later everyday. Grandma visits have pretty much been postponed until after lunch, but no fear I still go everyday for sure. Anyways, woke up and went straight to lunch with Uncle Sion, Aunt DeeDee and cousin Stephanie. Ate shanghainese food with them at Jade Garden (the place where sean and wayne went a couple times at Times Square). Pretty basic stuff nothing interesting really... the usual, Siu Lung bao etc...
We did get dessert and this was it. Kinda neat.

Forgot what this is called, but I thought you usually make soup with this stuff but they poured some syrup on it and made it sweet.

This was pumpkin "fritter", not bad. Kinda bland though.

I ended up buying lunch for everyone since I haven't really gotten a chance to treat my uncle and cousin to lunch but the price was pretty reasonable.

So honestly... nothing happened at all during the day. I went to the hospital to visit grandma for about an hour and a half and then went home to rest. Cuz it was gonna I knew the weekend was gonna be intense....

So met up with Jacky and Dee and some of their friends (cool people) for dinner. We went to a place called "Pokka Cafe" which honestly sounds like a swearword. (my asian friends you can use your imagination). The food was pretty average...

Crab and Salmon Roe Spaghetti
Pretty bland... Unloaded like half the canister of fresh ground black pepper on it..

So afterwards we went to LKF at a club called Beijing..... AGAIN.. God i'm seriously not a fan of this place, but half of Jacky's friends had membership there and we got a table... Ok so given that both family and friends visit this blog, i'm going to leave what happened that night up to everyones imagination. But lets just say....

This is the bottle we ordered.
Ordinary enough right..?

Yea.... 6L of belvedere vodka.

The thing we use to pour beer out? Yea... they use it for vodka here.
An australian guy at the next table came up to jacky and asked...

Aussie: "whoa.. is that your guys bottle?"
Jacky: "Yup"
Aussie: "Nice! Whats the occasion mate?"
Jacky: "um.. nothing really. Its friday night?"

Thats just how we do it... But you can guess how messy that night got....

Day 20
So I totally skipped the details on that night on purpose. Much more fun for those who weren't in attendance to imagine what happened. Anyways woke up at like 2pm... Crap. I was also out of laundry so I didnt even shower... Got up and went to pick up my laundry from the laundramat and went straight to see grandma before afternoon nap. She was extermely tired today so didn't stay too long. She tries so hard to stay up when i'm around so i only stayed for about an hour.
Saw this "anti-china" demonstration. It was regarding organ harvesting from live patients... Pretty nasty stuff... This was a part of the reason i'm scared to go back to China...

Laundry - I'm not sure if i told you guys about this.. but you can get laundry done here by the pound. This probably isn't a new concept at all but given that most of us have our own laundry machine, I think its new so i'm gonna talk about it anyways. So being a giant compared to everyone here... about a weeks worth of clothes here weighs about 8.5 pounds for me. That cost me 37HKD to get washed and dried and folded. Not bad. Didn't really take a picture but they basically give it back to you in a giant grocery bag.

Alright after that side note... The evenings activities consisted of going to dinner with family at North Point (the place where i went for my birthday to eat dinner). Had an hour to kill so went with Mike Leung to pick up his new golf clubs, which he kept at my broom closet of an apartment and then went to buy a cake for my lil Cousin Vanessa since it was her birthday on Monday.

Got her a cake from Cova... Supposed to be a good bakery.
Java Road Market.
Aunt Anna checking out the menu on the walls
More "BATTLE BOWLS!" beer drinking with the fam.
Family Pic.

And here comes the FOOD!
Started off very light with some Chicken wing tips. Not too impressed at first.... but..
Awesome "tong choi" in a hotpot
Pork "hands"
Squid with Squid Ink Spaghetti
There famous Chicken which we had last time. SOO GOOD
I keep forgetting what this stuff is called.. but its seafood. Some sort of shellfish/mussel?
Calamari. FRESHH
Funny name for this dish. Its called "pregnant woman" fried rice since its shaped like a preggers woman's stomach.
Shrimp with Salty Egg Yolk. Crazy good. Another "famous dish"

Clams. One of my favourite things in HK. Not only are the clams freaking huge but they taste 1000x better than anything in Toronto.
Birthday Girl opening up her cake.
She was so excited she needed to hold the knife... while blowing out the candles... heh.
HAPPY BDAY VANESSA!!

So after that, it was pool party night. I dont have very many pictures for obvious reasons (camera + water do not mix...)(not to mention you're adding alcohol to that mix)
Jacky and the pool

Sick view.

So the pool party was... kinda lame but alright at the same time. we determined we were the life of the party since the pool was pretty much empty until our group jumped in. I dont understand what it is with HK girls and guys and splashing? Thats pretty much all we did in the pool... Sigh if only the girls were hotter.... heh.

Only other story other than splashrificiness was some of the girls there clearly failed at composing themselves while drunk. One of them fell so hard (3 times) one time she broke Dee's shoe.. (yup dont know how thats possible) and the other time she literally "hum tao mai cheung" which translates to ... her smashing her head into the wall. It was pretty fail... she ended up being ok... but not classy AT ALL. But the night was ok, each entry fee of 500HKD came with 4 drinks so we got pretty buzzed. (yup and we went swimming... smart huh?)

After that we just went back to Raymond's, Jacky's friend, place to play some poker and watch some old chinese movies. I suck at poker so i obviously lost...

Oh yea.. Mike bought a golf digest.
Any thoughts on if this article would be allowed to be published in the North American version? Heh.

sexism ftw...
